Shop Drawings and ICF

Before ICF blocks can be used for construction in the Bahamas, there is an imposed requirement by the Ministry of Public Works.

Shop Drawings - which are 3D drawings, must be provided by a Structural Engineer showing the conversion of the 8" CMU (Concrete Masonry Unit) to the ICF Block that is being used for the foundation/and or Walls. The drawings shows the steel configuration in the ICF block.

These drawings are necessary because;

1. Inspectors from Public Works conducting the inspection must have drawings to verify compliance with code.

2. To ensure the issuance of Occupancy Certificate at completion of the construction.

You should always work closely and consult with your engineer, receiving the final green light, sign off, confirming that it is safe to fill the block core with concrete.
